Number twenty of the Negócios ou lazer? series. Done...for now. Thank you for listening. LN
Number nineteen and a half of the Negócios ou lazer? series. Rounded out and ready for number twenty.
For this mix, more than others before, is the collection of all the music I meant to put into one of the previous mixes, but didn't quite fit in. And with that, this is one crazy ride. Of note, a lot of Brazilian for whatever reason.
Looking back, in particular the first Negócios ou lazer? (February 2014), I'm surprised I made it EVERY MONTH, even after giving myself permission to skip or give up if need be due to what ever life would throw me. There were definitely months I didn't want to put on out. (And I'm not sure why I proclaimed this would be my LAST mix series. Don't feel like it will be.) It was all good therapy, good practice, good tunes and a good ride.
As for the next mix, I think I might give myself a bit more of a break between this series and the next, compared to last time. Just have some things to take care of first, including learning to become a photographer again.
As for progress in the artistic field...um...not much. However, I have decided that, next mix series, I might move over to Mixcloud from PodOmatic, or use both, in posting them. It's apples or oranges, but Mixcloud's getting more attention as of late, and I need more audience to...well, feed my musical ego. ;P Also, two DJ's who have provided inspiration for me in the past, DJ Musica and DJ Hironobu Jyounai/PRIMO have landed there as well.
This mix is a long and manic one, I guess to reflect the past month, which was more so than what I would have preferred.
Number nineteen of the Negócios ou lazer? series. Getting into the home stretch.
Number eighteen of the Negócios ou lazer? series. And as for life lately...just coasting...and I'll leave it at that. That's Life!
This mix is a long one, close to 90 minutes. Not intentional, but still a good listen.
As for the prospects of a new mix series...of course! What better do I have to do? However, it will be part of a greater re-tooling of website/blog, and even of some of my artistic capacities. (Like to quit loathing, and learn to love smartphone photography. ;P )
Number seventeen of the Negócios ou lazer? series.
The crazy is done...for now...I hope... I gave my all, in hopes, prayers, anxieties, worries and dozens of other thoughts & emotions in between. But in the end...still here...not too far from Square One. Still not sure why, but God is slowly revealing the reasons.
Now...I'm just tired. And soon this mix series will end. What next?
I need more style.
Again, for the music, see number fifteen.
Number fifteen of the Negócios ou lazer? series. About this mix, and the next two...hmmm...where to begin...?
The upcoming months will bring change to my life. Maybe big & drastic, or maybe not much more than what life has been like this past year(s). A lot of that I leave to God's plans & timing. But change is certain. So...let the crazy begin.
That said, I've hunkered down these past days, and I actually have the next two mixes ready as well (though I still plan on rolling them out as regularly scheduled). Music has been in abundance, as usual. Photography & cover concepts, simple but clever. (If you check these posts for the full covers & track listings, you'll see what I mean.)
As for the music for these mixes, random & maybe a bit darker. Sorry. Of note, extra tracks by Blue States, the lovely Marisa Monte and Robert Glasper & Associates. Got an abundance of guitar for Miss Phoenix.
And tracks by Gustavo Cerati/Soda Stereo. I got turned on to Soda Stereo in the mid-90's, as a friend was getting me into Rock En Español. Though the Argentine group had been around for a while, I fell in love with their last two albums, Dynamo (1992) & Sueño Stereo (1995). Maybe because of the Shoegaze elements, but fantastic albums anyway. A few years later, I found out that their guitarist/singer, Gustavo, went solo, and I picked up Bocanada (1999), another good one.
But for reasons not the band's, but my own changing tastes, I just didn't keep up with Gustavo or Soda Stereo (which reunited for a while). Then last month, for whatever reason, I Wiki'd them up and found out the bad news: Gustavo passed away in September 2014...after four years in a coma due to a stroke. He was 55. Wow...
Así que ... esto es para ti, GC.
Enjoy for what it is, and hope to see y'all out the other end. LN
Number thirtee...ooops...uh...fourteen of the Negócios ou lazer? series. (Yes! I'm superstitious! I'll make it up later.)
Interesting little developments this past month. For the good I think. Getting some Mojo back. Thoughts of the future and moving on to different places. Someone whom I think I shall henceforth name...Miss Phoenix. Mmmmm...yes.
And like this past month, lots of different things going on this mix. More Brazilian & Downtempo tracks than normal, but that's just how it came out.
And a note about the cover: Took a day trip down around San Antonio. When there, that car radio goes straight to KRTU 91.7, Trinity University's radio station. By far, hands down, one of the best Jazz stations in the country. Classic to Nu-Jazz, domestic & imported (including Jazz de Mexico, as the name implies, probably the only radio program dedicated to the genre). And from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM, it turns into one of the best College/Alt music stations I've heard in a LONG TIME. I mean...if I was in my 20's again, I'd be all over this shit!
So, finally, a tribute to this station that has inspired me so much. Please give them a listen, and support if you can.
Number twelve of the Negócios ou lazer? series. MMMMMMMMMM...NICE, BIG, BEEFY SOUNDS! No particular reason. Just came out that way. But it's about time.
The past month had some inner challenges. Had bouts of critical thinking that didn't do me any good. But like McGarrett said...starting from right now, wiser....bury the (proverbial!) dead, and move on. Otherwise, all's honky-dory!
And like the past two mixes, I've found a method to stockpile tunes and pull per mix. Keeps it random in a good way. Oh, and look! My own photography for once!
Enjoy, and hope the New Year's been a good one so far. LN
Number eleven of the Negócios ou lazer? series. And not a bit of Christmas standards in sight. In fact, got to admit, as I listen to this mix for it's first time in its entirety as I write this, I might have made it a little too heavy (esp. track 4...Jeeez...sorry). This past month was actually quite calm for once.
Like the last mix, this is the second batch of tunes I'd meant for mixes, but had yet to fit them in. The usual-but-random stuff, with a couple for The Lady.
The cover...feel I did better than last month, but again, the image is sampled. Good & ample photography has eluded me lately, even though I have better opportunity than I've had in years. I swear...next mix!
Enjoy, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. LN
